A Checklist of How Much Water is Used in the Home

By becoming aware of our daily usage of water and what common daily routines expend the most water we can start to make changes and look towards cutting down on unnecessary water usage which is not only good for the environment but good for our pockets too in the form of lower water bills.

Our list below details some of the most common uses of water that we use around the home in the order of least to most amount of water.

  • 0.3 litres – Making a hot drink
  • 1 litre – Brushing teeth with the tap turned off
  • 3 litres – A water efficient toilet half flush
  • 5 litres – Brushing teeth with the tap running
  • 5 litres – Washing hands and face
  • 5.5 litres – A standard toilet half flush
  • 6 litres – Washing dishes in the sink
