Which? product tests are impartial and very thorough. They have tested the 101 vacuum cleaners for their cleaning ability and the noise they make during operation. Per hair cleaning is tested by Which? reviewers combing dog and cat hair into a patch of carpet the size of an A3 piece of paper and timing how long the vacuum cleaner takes to clean the area fully. For day to day cleaning tests, Which? have rigged up a mechanical testing machine for each vacuum cleaner – each model will run for the equivalent of 288 metres! The volume of dust retention is measured per vacuum cleaner and finally the noise level of each vacuum cleaner is recorded in a special sound chamber rigged with microphones.
